We’re a small team of travel enthusiasts who believe exceptional stays should be enjoyed, shared, and remembered — not kept behind an unnecessarily high price tag.
That’s why we go ourselves. We check into the hotels, linger over breakfast in their dining rooms, walk the surrounding streets and trails, and take the photographs you see here. We experience each place as a traveller would, paying attention to the details and to the wisdom that comes with them: the view from the terrace, the quiet luxury of a thermal bath, the conversations with locals you could not have had anywhere else, the simple pleasure of having nowhere else to be — and above all the feeling of being treated as though you are genuinely welcome.

Once home, we track rates year-round, spotting how prices shift around busy dates and quieter days nearby.
Again and again, we find the same thing: the same beautiful room can cost half as much just a week either side of your original dates.
Hotels rarely make that clear. We do — so you can spend less on the stay and more on breakfast, local wine, and long afternoons on the terrace.
Our latest favourite travel destinations

Where We’d Stay
The places we would book first, and what a night for two actually costs at each. Tap any of them for the full record, the whole seasonal range, and a direct link to the booking page.
Most of them — 81 of the 88 — are hotels. The other 7 are holiday rentals: apartments and suites with a kitchen and a front door of your own, in places where that simply turned out to be the nicer way to stay. They are not here to pad the list. Each one is a pick we would happily hand to a friend, and each is labelled as a rental.

Lausanne: four palace hotels, and the one that undercuts them all
Lake Geneva's grandest hotels sit within two kilometres of each other, and the cheapest of them runs at a third of the dearest. All four share one free rewards club that we have measured cutting up to 10.7% off the public rate.

These are real public rates we have watched ourselves, week after week — not estimates, not sponsored placements, and never a favour to a hotel. Nobody can buy a place on this list or a kinder description on it.
