What you get
A five-star resort on the south coast of Gran Canaria, between the Maspalomas dunes reserve and the Pasito Blanco marina, built to mirror a traditional Canarian village - the lobby sits inside a replica of the domed church at Agüimes. It is theatrical and it knows it.
- Six pools, including a heated one that makes the winter months genuinely usable
- Corallium Thalasso centre - seawater circuits, the reason a lot of guests come out of
- Five restaurants on site, so half board is a real option rather than a trap

The rooms and the spa
The rooms are spacious and spotlessly clean, and that is genuinely most of what matters. What they lack is finesse. For a five-star property the finish and the detailing are a step behind the standard the rating implies, and you notice it in the small things rather than the big ones.
The gym is a genuine one, which is not always true at a resort this size: a good spread of cardio and resistance kit, and enough floor space that you are not waiting for a machine or working out in somebody's elbow.
The Corallium Thalasso centre is the resort's headline facility and, in our opinion, it is priced above what it delivers. Worth doing once if seawater circuits are the reason you came. Not worth building the trip around at the rates they ask.
Around it
Meloneras itself is a promenade town: the boardwalk runs east toward Maspalomas lighthouse and the dunes, which are a protected nature reserve and about as un-resort-like a landscape as you will find a ten-minute walk from a buffet. Pasito Blanco marina sits the other way.
The dunes are the thing to plan around. Go at either end of the day - the light is the whole point, and the middle of the day in high summer is punishing.
Eating here
OVO is the resort's own restaurant and it is decent rather than exciting: modern upscale cooking, Spanish in character, competently done. Nobody will be disappointed and nobody will be talking about it a month later.
⚠ Breakfast is the weak point, and it is worth planning around. The standard buffet has plenty of choice, but the atmosphere is flat and the whole thing is pitched at volume rather than at a five-star guest. The coffee comes out of machines that no one who cares about coffee would choose.

Whichever you pick, go and eat at Lopesan Costa Meloneras at least once. Its restaurants are the best in the group and they are a few minutes away. Highly recommended.
Our take
This is the property the whole list was built around. It has been under USD 196 ≈ €175 a night in the right week and over USD 404 ≈ €361 in the wrong one, which is roughly the difference between a five-star resort and a motorway hotel. Nothing about the room changes; only the week does.
