What you get
A five-star resort on the south coast of Gran Canaria, between the Maspalomas dunes reserve and the Pasito Blanco marina, built to mirror a traditional Canarian village — the lobby sits inside a replica of the domed church at Agüimes. It is theatrical and it knows it.
- Six pools, including a heated one that makes the winter months genuinely usable
- Corallium Thalasso centre — seawater circuits, the reason a lot of guests come out of
- Five restaurants on site, so half board is a real option rather than a trap
season rather than in August
Around it
Meloneras itself is a promenade town: the boardwalk runs east toward Maspalomas lighthouse and the dunes, which are a protected nature reserve and about as un-resort-like a landscape as you will find a ten-minute walk from a buffet. Pasito Blanco marina sits the other way.
The dunes are the thing to plan around. Go at either end of the day — the light is the whole point, and the middle of the day in high summer is punishing.
Our take
This is the property the whole list was built around. It has been under CHF 160≈ €169 · $195 a night in the right week and over CHF 330≈ €349 · $401 in the wrong one, which is roughly the difference between a five-star resort and a motorway hotel. Nothing about the room changes; only the week does.
