A short history
The Badischer Hof was built between 1807 and 1810 inside the buildings of a former Capuchin monastery, and is often described as the oldest palace-style hotel in Germany. It grew up with Baden-Baden itself, as the town became a fashionable spa for European visitors in the nineteenth century.
In its recent life it ran as a Radisson Blu. After an extensive rebuild and modernisation that kept the historic structure, the hotel reopened in 2026; the staircase hall with its wooden columns is still the centre of the house. In early July 2026 Leonardo Hotels took it over on a 20-year lease and opened it as part of its Limited Edition brand.
The detail that matters: thermal water is piped into the house. Baden-Baden's springs run under the old town, and only a handful of hotels are plumbed into them.

Felix stayed at the Badischer Hof and wrote this from his own visit. What stood out first was the people: the staff were friendly and went out of their way to help. Breakfast was the other highlight, and in his view the best in town.
The restaurant is good and fairly priced, and the bar is stylish enough to linger in for an evening of conversation. The location is hard to fault, close to the Schauspielhaus, the city centre and the parks, and there is a parking garage if you arrive by car.
The spa is well equipped: a pool that is good for swimming, several saunas including an outdoor one, and loungers outside. The garden is beautifully kept. The rooms are tastefully decorated and quiet, though the standard category is on the small side, so he would upgrade if the budget allows.
