What you get
This is a rental home rather than a hotel — apartment-style rooms in the old town of Como, with your own key and your own front door. It is here because we went and looked, liked it, and wanted it on the list. One of our hand-picked ones.
So: a lovely room and an address in the middle of everything. No concierge, no spa, nobody making you breakfast downstairs. If that trade sounds right, this is about as good as Como gets for the money.
Around it
Deep in the centro storico, so everything is on foot:
- Como Cathedral and the Broletto, two minutes away
- Basilica of Sant'Abbondio — Romanesque, eleventh century, and usually empty
- Funicular to Brunate for the view back down over the lake
- The ferry dock at Piazza Cavour for Bellagio, Varenna and Villa Carlotta
- Como San Giovanni for the twelve-minute train to Milan
Our take
The steadiest property we track on the lake: CHF 132≈ €140 · $160 at its floor, CHF 146≈ €155 · $178 typical, a swing of only 24%. You are not gambling on dates here, which on Lake Como is unusual enough to be the whole recommendation.
