Our notes
The largest of the three Lopesans at Meloneras and, on our numbers, consistently the dearest of them — which is why the journal entry says we would take Villa del Conde or Baobab first if the prices are close.
There is one very good reason to come here anyway, and it is dinner.
Devir, by Lopesan is a tasting-menu restaurant sitting inside the resort, and it is not a hotel dining room with ambitions — it is the real thing. We ate the Amurga menu: Canarian cheeses and a fritter to open, then mackerel, amberjack and mussels in a traditional broth, pear with roe, shrimp with sorrel and kohlrabi, black pork with figs and mojo. From the sea, tuna with caviar in a marine broth and seabream with koji. Then the traditional courses — squab soup with chickpeas, suckling lamb — and desserts built around Flor de Guía cheese, gofio and chocolate. Sensational, and the wine pairing was sensibly chosen rather than showy.
It is small. Book it before you travel, not when you arrive.
The resort's Italian restaurant is outstanding in its own right, and the better answer on an evening when eight courses is more than anyone wants.
⚠ Neither is included in half board. Price them separately when you are working out what a week here actually costs — on this resort the board decision moves the total more than the room rate does.
