Villa La Coste
Villa La Coste is a five-star hotel on the Domaine Château La Coste, an estate of about 200 hectares of organically cultivated vineyards at Le Puy-Sainte-Réparade, halfway between Aix-en-Provence and the Luberon Regional Natural Park. The hotel's own site describes the estate as a place dedicated to wine, art, architecture and wellness, and the hotel sits high on the hillside of the private domain.
There are 31 Villa Suites, set among gardens, herbs and flowers. Each opens onto a terrace with views over the vines and the valley, and some have private pools. The architecture is contemporary and uses local materials; light oak, marble and natural stone run through the interiors. The hotel is also open to guests with reduced mobility and welcomes pets.
Beyond the suites there is a spa, a library, a bar, a lobby gallery and an outdoor pool in extensive gardens. The kitchens are led by the chef Florent Pietravalle, who is responsible for the hotel's restaurants, among them the fine-dining restaurant Louison, La Galerie, The Bar and Les Jardins.

The area
Le Puy-Sainte-Réparade is a quiet Provençal village about twenty minutes north of Aix-en-Provence, and it would likely stay off most itineraries entirely if not for Château La Coste, the 200-hectare wine estate on its edge that has turned itself into one of the more unusual art destinations in France. The vineyard is genuine and old - the estate traces its wine-making back to Roman times, and today farms Vermentino and other varietals organically under full biodynamic (Demeter) certification - but what draws most visitors is what has been built among the vines: a wine cellar by Jean Nouvel sunk into the hillside, an art centre and restaurant by Tadao Ando, an auditorium and gallery pavilion by Oscar Niemeyer, and permanent installations by artists including Louise Bourgeois scattered across the walking trails between them.
The result is a single afternoon that moves between contemporary architecture, art and wine tasting without much sense of seams - visitors are largely left to wander the estate's trails at their own pace rather than follow a fixed tour. The village itself, around the estate, keeps to the unhurried rhythm typical of the Aix countryside: stone farmhouses, cypress-lined lanes, and the same rolling, vine-covered light that drew painters to this part of Provence in the first place.
