Our notes
Hotel Belvoir Lake View & Spa
The Hotel Belvoir sits high above Lake Zurich in Rueschlikon, only 15 minutes from Zurich's city centre, with a view that reaches from the city to the Glarus Alps. All 60 rooms have a lake view. The hotel has a spa and gym and eight meeting rooms, and it hosts weddings and events with the lake as backdrop.
The restaurant carries 14 GaultMillau points, and food and drink also include an infinity terrace and infinity lounge, a Sunday brunch, the BelBar and a lobby lounge. Booking.com guests rate the hotel 9.0 from 808 reviews, read in September 2026.
Plan ahead: the hotel announces that it will close from 3 January to 24 January 2027 for a refurbishment of the remaining rooms, the floors of the public areas, the restaurant and the BelBar, and reopens on 25 January 2027. Photographs: the hotel's own website, hotel-belvoir.ch.
The area
Zurich is usually a stop between the airport and the mountains. It deserves two nights. The old town is split by the Limmat and made for wandering; Bahnhofstrasse runs from the station to the lake past the banks and watchmakers.
For art, go beyond the Kunsthaus to the galleries in the former Lowenbrau brewery, then on to Zurich West, the old industrial Escher Wyss quarter with the Freitag tower of stacked containers. Langstrasse is where the city lets its hair down at weekends.
Along the lake: the Seebad Utoquai bathhouse, open to cold-water swimmers even in winter, and the Pavillon Le Corbusier. The city has its own mountain, the Uetliberg, 20 minutes up by S-Bahn, with trails and, when there is snow, a sled run back down. For breakfast, Sprungli's bircher muesli, and the Odeon cafe, open since 1911, for coffee.
Rüschlikon sits on the western shore of the lake, about 15 minutes by train from the centre.
