Our notes
Independent, on a sandy beach east of Limassol
One thing to know first: this Four Seasons is not part of the Canadian Four Seasons chain. It is an independently owned and operated hotel, run by Muskita Hotels, that has carried the name for decades - so book it on its own website, fourseasons.com.cy, not on fourseasons.com, and do not expect chain loyalty benefits. It is classified 5 Star Deluxe.
The hotel sits on a sandy beach on the eastern side of Limassol, a few minutes' drive from the city centre and roughly halfway between Larnaca and Paphos airports. It is large - 282 rooms on six floors, including six Four Seasons Residences - and every sea-view room has a balcony; inland-view rooms do not, so book a sea view. Around it are lagoon-style pools in tropical gardens, a beach with thatched parasols, an indoor pool and spa, several restaurants and bars, and adults-only garden studios and suites alongside a strong offer for families. Guest scores are excellent: Booking.com 9.6 from 2,121 reviews, Google 4.8 from 2,729 and TripAdvisor 4.8 from 4,873 (read October 2026).
The area
Limassol is Cyprus's second city and its liveliest: a port on the south coast that grew rich on wine, shipping and, more recently, finance, with a long seafront promenade - the Molos - lined with palms, sculpture and cafés. The old town behind it is a compact tangle of lanes around the medieval Limassol Castle, where, according to tradition, Richard the Lionheart married Berengaria of Navarre in 1191 and crowned her Queen of England. Nearby, the old carob warehouses by the old port have been turned into restaurants and bars, and the new Limassol Marina, with its yachts, shops and waterfront restaurants, has become the city's evening meeting place.
History runs deep along this coast. Ancient Amathus, one of the island's old city-kingdoms, sits right beside the eastern hotel strip, with its acropolis and the remains of the agora above the sea. To the west lies Kourion, the most spectacular of Cyprus's archaeological sites, with a Greco-Roman theatre on a cliff above the bay and fine floor mosaics, and close by the medieval Kolossi Castle of the Knights of St John, centre of the old sugar and Commandaria wine trade.
What else to do: drive up into the Troodos mountains, about an hour away, for painted Byzantine churches that are on the UNESCO list and wine villages such as Omodos; taste Commandaria, the sweet wine made here since the Crusades; swim from the beaches east of the city or at Lady's Mile to the west; and walk the seafront at sunset. Limassol's long season is its strength - the sea is warm from June to October, and April-May and late October are pleasant, quieter months with lower prices.
