Our notes
Columbia Beach Resort
Columbia Beach Resort is a five-star, all-suite resort on Pissouri Bay on the south coast of Cyprus, between Limassol and Paphos. According to the resort's own history, Columbia Beach Hotel opened on the bay in 1990 and the present Columbia Beach Resort followed in 2005; a landmark renovation was completed in 2017, reintroducing the resort across 75,000 square metres of gardens beneath the cliffs of Cape Aspro. Today it has 169 suites, a chapel, several pools and about 300 staff, and it belongs to Small Luxury Hotels of the World.
Suites are grouped as Junior, Executive, Cape, Eagle's Nest and Family Suites, mostly low-rise and facing the sea. Dining includes Apollo Tavern, which serves Cypriot and Greek dishes with fresh fish below the west pool, Bacchus for breakfast and grill dining, and the Cape Aspro restaurant. Hebe Spa has an indoor pool, treatment rooms and a fitness area, and tennis courts and a sailing club are on site.
Review evidence recorded for this site: Booking.com 9.5 from 990 reviews and TripAdvisor 4.6 from 2,331 (both read in August 2026), and Google Maps 4.8 from 1,393 (read in September 2026). Photographs: the resort's own material on columbiaresort.com.
The area
Limassol's coastline has been a wine country for longer than almost anywhere else in Europe - the surrounding hills were already known for it in antiquity, and the local Commandaria, still made in the villages above the city, is generally reckoned the oldest named wine still in production anywhere in the world. The city itself grew up next to somewhere older and more important: Amathus, six miles along the coast, was one of Cyprus's ancient royal city-kingdoms and home to the island's second great sanctuary of Aphrodite after Paphos, founded in legend by Cinyras and continuously inhabited from around 1100 BC until it was finally abandoned in the twelfth century AD. Its cliffside ruins - harbour, acropolis, the Aphrodite sanctuary - are still there to walk through, a quiet contrast to the modern promenade and marina Limassol has built along the same shore.
Pissouri, west along the coast toward Paphos, is the smaller and older-feeling alternative: a hillside village a couple of kilometres back from its own bay, with vineyards on the slopes above it rather than hotels, and one of the calmer beaches on this stretch of coastline below. It sits roughly halfway between Limassol and Paphos, close enough to the Aphrodite legends attached to both - Petra tou Romiou, the rock where she is said to have risen from the sea, is a short drive east - without the crowds either city draws in summer.
